Intro & Interest: Allante Whitmore

Hello everyone,

I am Allante Whitmore, a proud Detroit, MI native and graduate of the illustrious North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University in Greensboro, NC. I completed my B.S. in Biological Engineering and Waste Management Certification. I have come to UIUC to complete my MS/PhD in Biological Engineering. My research focuses on profiling the genetic and genomic mechanisms that contribute to genetically modified bacteria portraying the growth advantage in stationary phase (GASP) phenotype. My true research interest is in developing a biofuel that can be immediately transported through our current fuel delivery infrastructure (gas stations and our vehicles). I hope that this development can reduce environmental pollution due to all forms of travel. I also have some interest in policy because I know the strides I hope to make require regulation so I need to knowledgable in that area as well. My interest stems from my undergraduate research where I worked on biofuels from the cattail plant instead of typical corn for ethanol production. There I developed a passion for renewable energy and diversifying the U.S. energy portfolio and reducing our contribution to global pollution.

Looking forward to working with you all this summer!

Allante

  1. Hi Allante,

Your research sounds very interesting. I must admit, I do not know a lot about the workings of bio fuel but I did take environmental chemistry in undergrad. Before that class I never fully understood how important it is to reduce the amount of pollution, nor did I understand how pollution could effect countries economically. I wish you luck and look forward to reading more of your blogs.
