My name is Alonza Terry, I am originally from the metropolitan area of Atlanta, GA. I just completed my undergraduate education with a Bachelors of Science in mathematics at a small school in New Orleans called Xavier University of Louisiana. My research interests vary amongst several fields of study within mathematics, namely logic, graph theory, commutative algebra and complex dynamics. This summer I will be studying mathematical logic at the U of I.
In most of the introductory courses (math) in undergraduate school we reviewed set theory and I became fascinated so I spoke with a logician. We studied a few papers in axiomatic set theory (an area of logic) and I enjoyed the subject. The applications of logic are very important with the advent of the computer as seen in software engineering, programming, artificial intelligence (knowledge representation), database theory and linguistics.
If you have any questions please feel free to inquire.

Math and logic...I have a lot of questions but I'm not sure exactly what they are. Joseph (another math major in the program) was trying to explain to me math logic and it's importance in artificial intelligence at lunch today. Sounds complicated. Do you plan on applying you knowledge in a particular field outside of academics? If so, I'm interested in knowing how and/or where could you do that?
ReplyDeleteHi Lakiah,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post, I plan to pursue employment in the academy. It's very hard to know if my work will be applicable to any areas outside of academia (besides what's already known in the fields above), since my work takes a few years to obtain mastery of but not expertise in (by which may take a lifetime). Also, my interests vary so depending on what I pursue (in the future) will dictate or sternly influence an answer. The goal of research for me is to have interdisciplinary feats in the future despite the areas of mathematics that I pursue. I hope this better answers your questions.
Feel free to make additional inquiries.
