Week 2: Xuxa's R + W Family Experience

So far, working together in a research and writing family has surprised me and kept me on my toes. My family, Team Fierce, is AMAZING! I feel so lucky to be working with such brilliant, talented, and motivated women! Whenever we get together and we start bouncing ideas off each other, it feels like this .gif (thanks for the idea, Allante!):
It's magic whenever we find the points where our areas of interest intersect! However, there are just as many times where we find we're not speaking the same language or don't understand the languages we're each speaking. This aspect of our work together has been challenging in showing us how much we do and don't know about each other's work and fields, as well as seeing how difficult it can be to produce the kind of research we're doing simply because of the time it takes to catch each other up on each other's fields. It's not that we can't work together despite coming fro such different fields, it's just that we're already each so entrenched in the discourses that our fields need us to speak in that we're often spending time hosting impromptu, intensive boot camp mini sessions on our work.

What's exciting about this though is that there's so much to learn from each other still! Maybe because I love learning, but I'm looking forward to learning more about bioengineering and library and information sciences as our program goes on!
